Hwaseong Fortress, Suwon Traditional Market, & Korean Folk Village Tour

Overview

  • We will be traveling to Suwon to see the traditional side of Korea.
  • First off is the Hwaseong Fortress where King Jeongjo moved to from Seoul. It is the first fortress built in Korea made using a mixture of traditional and modern building techniques
  • See the four gates of Hwaseong Fortress that are situated at the four cardinal directions, North, South, East and West during a ride along tour where you can learn many facts about the gates and the fortress itself
  • See the beautiful Dongbukgangnu, a pavilion originally made as a command post but was instead used for feasts and such due to the natural beauty around it
  • Walk along the walls of the fortress and see where the soldiers were posted while patrolling and watching out for enemies
  • Visit the Suwon Traditional Market which was established in 1917. See the many stalls and stores selling their wares which range from t-shirts to silk worm snacks
  • See a statue of King Jeongjo where he is pouring you a drink, which also doubles as a great photo opportunity with the former King
  • Walk around the Korean Folk Village in Suwon where you are transported back to the Joseon Dynasty with the architecture and workers wearing traditional clothes
  • See different performances there including a traditional wedding ceremony and traditional songs and dances
  • Walk around the relaxing walking paths set up at the village, where you can be one with nature in the trees or at the bank of the creek that runs through the middle of the village
  • Swing on the standing swings, getting a taste of your childhood once again
  • Make some pottery with a professional pottery maker there to assist you for an additional cost
  • Eat some traditional Korean food at the village market or at other locations in the village
  • Try your hand at a traditional grain mill
