3.Seoraksan National Park
Mt. Seoraksan is Korea’s third largest mountain full of various hiking trails, cliffs, and waterfalls. It is popular for its dramatic peaks, deep valleys, and jagged ridges. It offers breathtaking landscapes all year around with beautiful scenery throughout each season. You can arrive at Seoraksan National Park by car or bus and it is only around 3 hours away. The park is divided into NaeSeorak (Inner Seorak) and OeSeorak (Outer Seorak). OeSeorak is close to the sea and full of steep slopes. NaeSeorak is more secluded with less steep peaks, more plants, and more wildlife. It’s home to Ulsanbawi Rock which is famous for its six granite peaks. There are many hiking courses throughout the National Park and each one ranges from easy to difficult. Take the popular cable car to Gwongeumseong, a stone fortress at the top of Seoraksan Mountain, where you can see ruins of an old castle. Visit Sinheungsa Temple and glimpse into 7th century Korea at the oldest Zen Buddhist temple in the world. Admire traditional Korean architecture, wall paintings, and tea ceremony practices with local monks. This is also where you can see the magnificent Buddha statue which serves as a symbol of hope for the reunification of North and South Korea. Visit Daeseung Waterfall, known as the favorite spot of King Gyeong-Sun, the last king of the Silla Kingdom. Grab a bite to eat at local restaurants that provide delicious and authentic Korean cuisine. Don’t forget to pack comfortable hiking shoes and clothes and come along on a journey around one of the best hiking destinations in Korea!
